The most fun I have had reading a book in a long while. There were so mny layers that absorbed me right from the beginning.
A truly original work that was thriller, mystery, love story, and classic literature all at once.
So many levels to explore, and always a new question, some of which weren't answered. Yet that means a lot of it can be whatever the reader wants.

Reading S. takes time and effort and concentration, and it is completely worth it. This is like no other book I've ever read, though the 39 Clues series for older kids has a bit of the extra puzzle solving that this has. In addition to reading the plot of Ship of Theseus, you're reading the side stories of the readers, Jen and Eric, as well as the historical events (both real and imagined) that parallel or are evoked by the pieces of Ship of Theseus. There are the reader-scholars, the professors, the patrons, the world-scholars, the characters, the real life counterparts to the characters, the parents, the writers and their comrades, and a very important translator to follow. A person could spend full 40 hour work weeks on decoding all the codes in here for fun, checking Jen and Eric's work for incongruities. Then you can go online and search for the forums and pages dedicated to the mysteries of this book. You thought the tv show Lost was tangled? This is 456 pages of tangled amazingness, with a decoder wheel thrown in for fun.

This book was an incredible experience. There are four stories unfolding at once, Ship of Theseus, V M Straka and the S, as well as Jen and Eric's story. At first it was hard to figure out how to read the book, I contemplated reading Ship of Theseus in its entirety and then going back and reading the notes (in sequence or by color). But it was too hard to resist the side stories and I found myself reading back and forth. The notes aren't chronological and you get snippets of what's coming although certain notes never fully flesh out. My only complaint is that I wanted to know more particulars about S, the new. S and the battle happening around Jen and Eric. Ship of Theseus is itself a fascinating story of a secret agent who doesn't know his own identity and defies the logic of time, traveling interchangeably between lands while those around him age faster. There are elements of fantasy ( a ghost ship that can rebuild itself), reality (protests and the struggle of the lower class) and evil ( a deathly mystery substance). Do yourself a favor and pick up this book!

so incredibly inventive and cool, loved the way both stories are told like I loved the novel portion itself and all the inserts were so fun
