Oh, my! Single sitting read-through, it was that good. Confident, intelligent, kick-arse heroine with a no-nonsense attitude, brimming with kindness and thoughtful to boot. Small taste of romance, some cute Fae creatures and a very supportive girlfriend to counteract the selfish arseholes blighting her efforts. I am desperate for book 2. Please don't make it a long wait!
I think I'm going to read it again...

Narrated by Caitlin Kelly, this urban fantasy introduces us to Jesse James. A recently graduated eighteen-year-old with a sprite for a brother and bounty hunters for parents. When her parents don’t return from meeting a contact, Jesse searches for them but quickly realizes to do that, she must join the family business.

Woot! I loved the world building as Lynch introduced us to an alternate New York and the Fae Games series. In this urban telling, the veils between fairy world and our world collapsed. When that happened the fairies and other creatures decide not to hide anymore and most live among us and travel back and forth without incident. However, some cause problems and when that happens bounty hunters capture the creature. Once tagged they are exiled to the fairy world.

I loved Jesse. She may not have field experience, but she is book smart & quick on her feet. When she runs into trouble with the fairy guard and Lukas, their leader. Oh my!

The characters were well-developed and their voices felt authentic. From bounty hunters to the annoying agents, I was all in.

You’ll enjoy mystery, a dash of romance, twists, coffee with Violet, Jesse’s bestie and intense moments with Lukas. The bounty hunts were fascinating as was a thread about a unique line of females. I want to know more!

At first I wasn’t sure if this was Young Adult as Caitlin Kelly’s voice for Jesse seemed too young at first, but it’s not and I came to love Kelly’s voice for all the characters, even Finn the Sprite. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Jesse James' goes on a quest to locate her missing bounty hunting parents in this interesting adult urban fantasy.

I have some mixed feelings about Pawn. The world building and story progression was the perfect blend of tension-filled and interesting to keep me reading well into the night. While I liked Jesse's quest and her hunter abilities, I found myself puzzling over her personality. She seems rather bland and boring despite all of the interesting things she does and discovers. The connections she builds with other characters, particularly Lukas and his squad, was the best part of the novel. The romance is not very pronounced in this book - I suspect we will not get much development with it until the second or third books.

This was a decent YA urban fantasy. I particularly liked the representations of platonic and familial relationships.

This urban fantasy is a breath of fresh air! The fae blend seamlessly into the human world, creating a unique and captivating setting. Our heroine, a fierce and independent soul, stands out in a genre often dominated by snarky badasses. She’s strong, smart, and can kick serious fae butt, all without relying on witty one-liners.

The found family dynamic is heartwarming, and the sexy fae males add a sprinkle of magic and intrigue. While the romance isn’t the main focus, the banter between characters is electric and kept me hooked from start to finish. This book has quickly become a favourite, and I can’t wait to see what adventures await our heroine next!
