lighthearted relaxing fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No

Having my phone read to me from my kindle app makes it so easy to breeze through these books! Liking the character development so far.

This book is filled with completely unlikable characters, but weirdly, I also kind of liked it? I will admit, I liked the show, but I also think the show did a better job at making these awful people more relatable at times.

Really, I didn’t like anyone in the entire book.
- Dan seems to think Serena has to love him back because he ‘loves her’ and by that he means she really beautiful because he knows nothing about her and ends up hating her every time she opens her mouth. He comes across so over the top and annoying. A sad man-child in making.

- Serena has had everything handed to her in life because she’s so beautiful and when someone doesn’t seem eager to please her she gets grumpy and thinks her ’luck’ ran out. She also never thinks everyone else’s problems are ‘drama’ and could never have anything to do with her, even when they might.

- Blair is living a fantasy life. Shes bulimic because she feels she can’t control anything, and she’s definitely trying her hardest to control everyone and everything around her. Definitely comes across as rude and entitled.

- Nate is a fucking douche lord. Wow. He’s probably the most different from the tv series for me. I mean, he was still a douche there, but to invite your side chick to your girlfriends mothers wedding that’s also on her birthday, and sit in the foyer kissing her? Dude that’s rank.

- Jenny is so naive. She thinks Nate is so lovely because he’s not as aggressive in his wooing as Chuck Bass. At least Chuck wasn’t grooming you to do what he wanted. When she said how old he was and he caresses her and said it didn’t matter I think I actually threw up in my mouth.

- Vanessa is just as bad as Dan. She’s jealous Dan ‘loves’ Serena, but is lining over him to the point she’s constantly angry... and she HAS A BOYFRIEND.

All in all I got that nobody cares about anybody in this book. Not the parents (rude as fuck to try guilt your kid to change their name, like their own father doesn’t matter anymore) and definitely not these kids who are meant to be friends.

And yet I still liked it and want to read the next one. The drama was good even when the people were shit, and even though they were shit people I still felt bad for them at times.
