After the invasion and devastation of Earth by the rapacious Ocrevv, the only safety available to a woman is to be married off to a compatible alien. Melody agrees to this, and is sent via shuttle to her new home. Unfortunately, she is mistakenly dropped off on a prison planet, run by the hated Ocrevv, and her only protection is in the hands of an Ocrevv prisoner, Daqk.

Melody and Daqk are strong and resourceful characters, and the story of their time together is full of deepening understanding and care. I highly recommend this quick read.
