This is another one of the retellings that add more context to a little known character from myth, in this case, Medusa's sisters. Medusa is also a character included and that haunts the narrative, as we don't get her POV. Unfortunately, the characters feel rathers flat and the book went on longer than the characters could carry it for. The character development was lackluster, and when it did happen, it was rushed (particularly for one character).

There were pockets of passages that were great to read, but I was bored for the most part, which was disappointing because there’s a lot of good storytelling to be had in any mythological canons.

I adore a Medusa retelling and this was no exception. The story was a beautiful weave of many tellings of Medusa's tale and finally brought the nother twp Gorgons into the spotlight. Stheno and Euralye were delightful, infuriating, flawed characters that I miss already. Every page made me stop and reread whole paragraphs, often aloud, just to hear Bear's incredible use of language again. This is her debut novel and I'm blown away by her understanding of the art form so far. I can't wait to see where she goes from here.
