I can’t believe how much I loved this book and how amazing it was. It was on my audio book listen list for a couple of years — who wouldn’t want to listen to a book read by The Boss? Of course I knew some of his music, but I’ve never been a huge fan. This book had me laughing out loud, crying, grabbing my journal to write down his wisdom. Springsteen’s story is great because it is the story of the American Dream—he paid $18 for his first guitar and didn’t know how to tune it, but the book is amazing because of his raw vulnerability. He opens up about his tumultuous relationship with his father, his struggle with depression, his dad’s mental illness, imposter syndrome, how to raise and love your kids well when you didn’t come from a home that loved you well. It is a beautiful story of an incredible life by an amazing story teller. I’m so glad I finally listened to it.

I listened to the audiobook. Springsteen didn't sound like he was reading the manuscript; it sounded like he was just telling the story.
It was better than I expected.

I enjoyed learning how Bruce became the musician he is today. He went through a lot of hard times growing up and in his adult life. Bruce was able to overcome his struggles and found success. I am a Bruce fan and am glad that I was able to learn more about him. The book was a bit all over the place and lengthy. There was a lot of detail and characters which made it difficult to remember the characters, events, and places. For those reason I rated the book four stars
