It just has to be a five star!

I love these books so much, I think this is going to be my favourite middle grade series. They’re so comforting and nostalgic! They sort of give The Worst Witch vibes. The illustrations and the maps at the front are gorgeous too.

The writing is gorgeous and these are exceptionally written middle grade books with wonderful characters, brilliantly executed plots and amazing cosy vibes.

This second book lived up to the high standards of the first book. It was such a cosy read and really put me in the Autumn mood.
I would have loved to see more of the dangerous creatures from the hedge, especially the ones mentioned as they sounded spooky and cool! I also would have loved a little bit more of the tense scenes, it did feel like they wrapped up a little quickly.

But I couldn’t not rate this five stars! Cosy, fun, comforting, whimsical, lovely…agh.
I love these books so muchhhh.

This is a continuation of the series - not sure it would work as a standalone.

This book introduces Sebastian, Cassie's cousin who thinks everything in Hedgely is old fashioned.

The Hedgewitch seems nicer in this book - recognising Cassie's development and skills.

This book was a little creepier with the shadows and more encounters in the Hedge but was engrossing.

Aoife was an excellent addition, providing an alternative view. For children, I'd say she needs a pronunciation guide. My son had already read this book and when I asked how he'd been pronouncing her name in his head, he'd got it wrong (which did mean we had an interesting conversation on pronouncing Irish names!)

Another excellent middle grade book and I'll definitely continue reading the series.

Step into the magical world of Hedgewitch, where the land of Faerie lies just beyond our own . . . The enchanting new series continues. Cassie has settled into life in Hedgely when, out of the blue, her troubled cousin, Sebastian, comes to stay for Hallowe'en. Sneering and scornful, Sebastian trails after Cassie and her friends, interfering with their coven projects and belittling the dangers of the faery world.
But Cassie, Rue and Tabitha have bigger problems - as the nights grow longer, a dark shadow creeps out of the Hedge and villagers start behaving strangely, possessed with the desire to find a mysterious object. When the Hedgewitch is called away, the girls decide to investigate and discover that whoever is controlling the villagers is seeking a faery relic: an ancient and dangerous weapon, hidden somewhere in the village. Their magical training will be put to the test as they venture deeper into the Hedge and race to find the faery treasure before it falls into the hands of the Erl King.

I loved this Middle-grade mystery with the friendships which individuals rely on to build themselves and find out who they are. This story revolves around the 3 friends, Cassie, Rue and Tabitha looking into the mysterious being who has come to the village as well as dealing with the arrival of Cassie’s cousin Sebastian who arrives to spend time. They have to venture into the Hedge to find out what is happening in their village and try and find the hidden relics before they are used against the villagers. I enjoyed the sub-story of Cassie finding out more about her mother and the identity of her father. This mystery will put the young witches' magical talents to the test and will take all of their talents to the test. I loved the character development and the relationships of the main characters and how the things that they find out develop them. The author deals with some very difficult subjects and puts them into easily understandable situations which children will be able to relate to and can learn from.

🐾My magical journey with Cassie Morgan, her fluffy assistant, and friends is in full swing, and I truly savor every single adventure in this magical world.

🧙The Plot:  We keep following Cassie, who adjusts her life in Hedgely. Suddenly, her cousin Sebastian arrives and stays for Halloween. Cassie is tasked with keeping an eye on this troublemaker, who follows her and her friends wherever they go and sticks his nose into everything they do. Moreover, Cassie and the crew have some riddles to deal with, more challenges to cope with, and a mysterious object to find before it gets into the hands of the Erl King. When the Hedgewitch is called away, they dive into a dangerous investigation filled with shocking discoveries. With each step, the investigation becomes more complex, darker, and scarier.

🐾The Writing Style: This is one of those cases where the second book turns out to be even more thrilling, rich, and mind-blowing than the first. (But the first one was totally awesome!) The events grow increasingly twisty, captivating, and intriguing. The riddles and dangerous quests keep you on edge, making you worry about the main characters. I also love the dialogues, which deepen the storyline and reveal secrets from the past, bringing them to light and complicating the characters' challenges. I truly appreciate that the high-paced, 'broomstick-in-full-swing' momentum is maintained in the second book of the series. The brilliantly depicted adventurous spirit completely captivates me, giving me the exhilarating feeling of actively participating in the book's magical events.

🧙The Characters:  At times, I find myself wondering—Is Skye McKenna a witch? A good witch who has decided to lift the veil to this magical world? That's how profoundly, masterfully, and vividly the world-building and its inhabitants are portrayed. I absolutely admire all of them in every aspect. And yes, I can't get enough of Cassie's fluffy assistant—a bit grumpy, perfectly sarcastic, and with a big, kind heart.

📖The Fave Quote: "People think books are safe, tame things nowadays. Always encouraging their children to read, they are. But books can change you, change the way you see the world, and then there's no going back. Indeed, some have a will of their own."

😍Would I read other books by this author? Book three waits for its turn in my bookshelf, and I can't wait to dive into it!

🌝My humble rating is: 5/5

🧙Suppose you have a witch spirit in your soul or just want to dive into the thrilling, dangerous, and exciting world of magic. In that case, you'll definitely enjoy traveling on a broom along the glorious world of "Hedgewitch" by Skye McKenna.

😊I do hope you'll enjoy reading this series as much as I did.

🙏🏼Anyway, thank you so much for dropping by and reading this post!

🌝Stay safe, take care, and happy reading!

I loved this book. I liked it more than the first book, Hedgewitch, where we are introduced to Cassie, the town Hedgely and the Hedge (woods and border of Faery lands). I like the relationships between Cassie, Rue and Tabitha. They are getting better at working together and helping out their town.
I love the mentioning of herbs, potions and plants.

A new character Aoife (Irish witch) comes to join the coven and I thought the was a wonderful addition to the characters. She was like a sunbeam unlike the Hedgewitch Miranda who comes across as a cross owl.
