The first half is incredibly interesting. There is a lot of info that sheds light on the helpers and the hiders struggles. It explores Anne's thoughts and the authoring of the diary, Otto's struggles and decisions around the Anne Frank story, and the helpers postwar life.

After much of the historical is explored the book tapers off into a weird area around the authors family and while interesting, there wasn't a good delineation to when this was happening much of this familial exploration should have been more epilogue.

I don’t love a lit of non-fiction but this one was awesome!  It tells the story of the other side of the wall from Anne Frank’s family.

For enthusiasts and those engrossed with the tragic story of Anne Frank, this is a new must read. Researched over a decade and told by Bep’s son and an energetic young historian on the subject, it gives some new light to how those in the Annex might have been betrayed. It’s a quick read, and kept my attention the whole way through. So important to be mindful of the topic of the Holocaust, and if you’re interested in more information or a new theory of Anne’s story, then check this out!

The first third to half was a very interesting dive into the history of Anne Frank and the helpers, but the remainder deteriorated quickly into a convoluted story of the author’s personal family which seemed unrelated to the Anne Frank story. I didn’t really enjoy the writing style.
