I would like to personally thank Luke Thompson (of Bridgerton fame) for narrating this book and being the only reason that I even finished this book.

I think if this book was meant as a satire to illustrate the fallibility of falling in love with the image we have of people or some form of commentary on men and women relationships, I would have liked it more. But alack and alas, it was painfully earnest.

If I wanted to experience a mid twenty year old claim he is far too whimsical for reality and how tough it is to “fall in love” so easily to a girl (an underaged one) who he can’t have because she loves someone else (and then continuously lament that he has the fate of being the “nice guy”). Then I’d rewatch 500 Days of Summer. Or read a Reddit post.

I don’t get the hype. The guy meets a girl once, immediately decides she’s his entire world, and then—shocker—gets his heart broken. They barely know each other! What does she like to read? What was she like as a child? Does she have any opinions on politics, religion, or, I don’t know, anything beyond wistful monologues in the town square? For all the BookTok praise, I was left wondering if I missed some deep, hidden meaning… or if everyone just loves a good dose of romantic delusion
