The book has a very dark theme centering around a convicted child sex offender. That's a hard thing to read about but I just couldn't connect with the characters at all.  Steven has a sucky home life and everyone around him is just awful. I also found the idea that a 12 year old boy would do all the things that Steven does so the book was just a No for me.
