Excellent dissection of the development of the current state of policing in the United States, including a reasonably in depth coverage of the development of the profession of policing in the 19th century. Emotionally difficult as it covers a large number of extra-judicial executions by the state and an ever increasing culture of violence and xenophobia within the profession over the decades. The book also keeps its eyes forward, giving ideas for what can improve the situation.
