My four stars is more for the importance of the story being told than actual enjoyment. It was a very depressing read. It becomes more of a list of all the Osage people murdered and the white men who got away with it. There is a lot of focus on the FBI prosecutor and less on the Osage themselves. I've never read the fully version so I can't compare the two. Non-fiction isn't my favorite genre so I like that there are these young reader editions that make them more accessible.

Reading this book makes you so angry that people got away with what they did and there are still people like that.

A stunning story recounting extreme, decimation of a peoples for greed and prejudice. Grann does an exceptional job researching and digging, following every thread and sussing out the darkness the white men of Fairfax had hoped to bury.

This book reads like the most engrossing crime thriller but is unfortunately true. It’s so upsetting and shows a true failure that we don’t learn more about this and other instances of mass violence towards Native Americans and other people of color in America’s history.

Wow!

So powerful! I have been wanting to read this for a while and with the upcoming movie I had to know the story. Its so heartbreaking and I hate knowing how many people will never know the truth.

Gripping and shocking reanalysis of a time and place in American history about which I was truly ignorant. A page-turner, for sure. I read the Young Readers edition, so I'm curious about what was altered from the original publication, but this version was very well done. Highly recommended.

I really loved this author’s nonfiction, journalistic style. Highly readable and engaging.
