It got annoying after a while in how scared Raina was of snakes. Other than that, I like the flashes to the past and bridging the present with the past.

Raina couldn't wait to be a big sister. But once her sister arrives, things aren't how she expected them to be. As they grow up their relationship doesn't improve all that much. So when Raina, Amara and little brother Will embark on a road trip from San Fransisco to Colorado with their mother for a family reunion, it's no surprise there will be squabbles. And of course the sisters will be forced to learn to get along.

Sisters is different from Smile in a variety of ways, yet it continues to draw from the author's own life, this time exploring the bonds of sisters (or siblings in general). On the whole, the storyline felt weaker and I was left wanting more. The flashbacks to earlier in their lives gave some insight into how Raina and Amara have very little in common.
I think I struggled more with this one because it felt like more privilege seeping into the storyline. It also seemed like the kids are controlling the family dynamic.
The art continues to be a strength of the series. The author has depicted the scenes in a warm and cheerful way, at times getting the story across simple from the illustrations.
I enjoyed this installment less than the first, even so I am still looking forward to reading the third book in the series.
