I liked this more than I expected! This was my first ever Scott novel and read only as a companion piece for my dissertation. Easier to read than anticipated and the narrative/plot engaging. I found myself reading the Scots dialogue in a broad internal Scottish brogue but confess there were a few Scots words that I didn’t know - “streekit” being one of them. Would definitely recommend, Sir Walter Scott seemed to know exactly how to engage with his readers

There is something inevitably transfixing about sir Walter Scott's novel. Laden with rich descriptions and elaborate insights into the Scottish way of life, the historical novel tinged with Gothic elements is an interesting and fascinating read. Immersive and engaging, this tragic tale is a testament to Scott's reputation as "Wizard of the North" who weaves wondrous stories.
Really compelling story -> brooding Scottish lord falls in love with mentally ill girl is 10/10.
But I suck at reading old Scottish dialogue, so it was hard to actually read.

I have never read any of Scott, and although The Bride of Lammermoor didn’t impress me as much as its blurb did, I’m definitely returning to one of the most famous Scottish authors of all time.
To sum up my thoughts:
The beginning was slow, and I was continually thinking ‘where is this thing going?!’. The Duck Tinton and Girder subplots literally left me yawning.
The middle began to heat up along with the romance, and yet I just couldn’t feel it.
The end...I cried. Despite the fact that I was seriously considering a two star review for TBOL, that ending....it was just tragic.
This is a brief review but...I might expand it because I have a lot to say about this book and not all that much time to type it. :)

I had to force myself to read this for the first half as it is for class and I really didn't want to read it, but damn the last 50% was a lot of action. Turns out I really liked it.
