Enjoyable and laid back Regency romance - however, I feel it got very repetitive near the end. There were a lot of reused lines (eg. "if you leave now I will be very vexed with you") that probably could have been edited out or polished for a more enjoyable reading experience.

Nice cast of characters though.

If you love strong, independent women who won't let men rule their lives, then get a copy of "A Lady's Honor" right away!

Phoebe Hallsmith is an employee of the Everton Domestic Society of London, a company that provides women to assist when and where needed in the confusing world of Victorian England. But when she finds herself assigned to help a widower pull himself out of the bottle, her heart is pulled in multiple directions - he is the husband of a good friend, who passed away and left a young daughter behind.

Caught between her heart and society's demands, Phoebe navigates stormy waters with pluck, determination and a strong will that rivals Wonder Woman. If you're looking for the first book in a series that'll have you lunging for every new release - this is it!

After Phoebe spent years caring for her ill grandmother she figures she is past the marrying age so she decides to join the Everton Domestic Society, she goes to help Markus care for his daughter after the death of his beloved wife in childbirth two years before and he is dealing with his loss badly by drowning his sorrows. With Phoebe's help, he starts to deal with his grief and move forward but feelings start to develop between them leaving them both feeling guilty. This was a pretty good read.

review em breve

Received a copy of A Lady's Honor in exchange for an honest review. Thank you A.S. Fenichel and Book End Tours for allowing me to read this!

Perfection. Seriously, this was absolutely beautiful. What I love most about historical fiction, especially when romance is involved, is the ability for the author to create such a whirlwind of emotional connections between the characters while still grasping on the true historical nature of the time setting. Regardless of the miss tells, it is fiction and above all the author can do whatever to make it evolve into such an amazing story with a great backbone to boot.

So lets jump right into the good stuff head first, shall we?

The point of a historical fiction is the atmosphere, whether it is exaggerated or very adamant to the specific time frame, it needs to be believable for the readers imagination. With that being said, Fenichel's ability to create this world building between caste system, set up in Europe where society and titles were imperative to the survival of your living situation was perfectly flawless. Involving what it was like as woman of stature yet fallen from the grace of her family plus the development of what scandal could do to a reputation; it was super fun!

Which brings us to my favorite thing: Phoebe. I loved this little red head spunk. She was strong yet refined, she understood her place in the society with her current situation and embraced it. Yet she still held the grace and poise of what a woman is expected to be in all aspects. She did not allow her flaws to oversight her goals, though they do weigh on her a great deal, influencing her internal conflicts, she still does allow herself to own up to her flaws - dealing with it face on. As for the delicious Markus. I loved his character through and through. Handsome and kind yet rough around the edges, he was a true brute of romance.

Oh the chemistry! Between the hideous Durnst and unpleasant Blunt courting Phoebe, it was the swoon worthy Markus that stole my heart and I needed to have him win damnit! The chemistry between Markus and Phoebe was a perfect blend of deep passion, mutual respect and heart felt internal conflicts. They had some of the most intimate moments without even touching it made my heart sore over the moon.

Even with the chemistry and drama surrounding our lovers, the supporting characters were absolutely wonderful. I adored little Elizabeth! It made the development wonderfully sweet and adorable.

Bottom line, I really enjoyed this novel. I do not have much in the way of dislikes overall. It was a short enough read to be quick, fact paced with the right amount of chemistry and build to the romance. It was romantic, scenic, and just overall beautifully written. I definitely want to continue the future novels within the Everton Domestic Society series. Fenichel has captivated me mind and soul with her beautiful writing style, I cannot wait to add more of her to my TBR.

a bit overlong, but quite enjoyable overall

3.8/5
This was my first book by this author and I must say I enjoyed it.
The book is well written and had well developed characters. Phoebe and Markus formed a great couple and all secondary characters were an utter joy.
The story follows Phoebe, who after a broken engagement goes to work for the Everton Domestic Society and is consequently disowned by her family. It also follows Markus, who lost his wife during childbirth. He has been a drunk ever since, 3 years on.
Markus and Phoebe's story is filled with drama and humor. Their evening meetings over sweets were adorable.
My only critique is how fast everything, from the house being fixed, to Markus healing, and to them falling in love happened. It was a tad unrealistic, which I find okay on most romance books but it never really works for me on historical romances.

I received a copy of this book as part of a Instagram book blog tour.

Great book, loved these characters and their journey! Such a great, easy read! Loved it!

This was a nice little kick-off to a new historical romance series, but it wasn’t entirely memorable.

It was quick-paced, which helped keep me engaged while reading. And I enjoyed this to an extent, I just don't know that this was as gripping as it could have been with respect to the grief that was so integral to the tale.

But in the end, it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me, and that’s okay.
