Fantastical, open-ended to leave room for more but satisfying enough on its own, a pretty grown-up book for children

My seven year old is completely in love with this book. We checked it out of the library and will need to buy it.

Fabulous book, and will probably be a great series!

I am aware that now I'm reading picture books, but I'm obsessed with this universe, okay. :1

The very first page of this book says that the Man in the Moon was the first Guardian of all, but nothing will convince me that anyone but Nightlight holds that honor. He took the oath first, and he
Spoilersacrificed himself for MiM
, so don't go telling me that MiM was the first. >>

Have I mentioned that I love Nightlight

(Also Jack Frost was in the splash page illustration for this book!!!)

I just read this to my daughter at bedtime. The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is bittersweet. We both enjoyed it immensely.

I love William Joyce and his trippy, Steampunkish fantasies, but I was disappointed by MiM. The first in a planned series about the Guardians of Childhood, I didn't find the series premise that engaging.
