I only got through this by pretending Kaleb was Peter Steele

I think most people tend to judge a book by its ability to keep your attention within the first 5 chapters or so. Push past that. It's a smidge on the slow side to start of, and out of freaking nowhere- the smut just takes you down onto your knees, drags you through the dirt and drives you deep while keeping you winded. This is a thick smog of taboo that has you inhaling in gulps

I’ve seen recommendations for this book EVERYWHERE, so I thought I’d find out what all the fuss was about, and you know what? It was good. I didn’t think it was as “taboo” as some seemed to think it was, but it was a tad dark and full of tropes, and the spice was definitely spicing. My favorite part, though, was the complex characters and how each of the relationships unfolded between them. It was interesting, to say the least.

This book is definitely messy, and for me there was an unexpected emotional numbness that came from the FMC addressing her childhood (more lack thereof) and a mute son, but all that is swept away because of the sheer messiness that this story is. Yes, she sleeps with her step-uncle, and his sons. And the entire town where The Peak is located is filled with only Neanderthal men who have no other personality than to sleep with the new girl, all of which happens with a ‘winter is coming’ panic. I don’t ever see myself recommending this book to anyone - and for the love of all things holy it is not a why-choose situation - but I can’t say that I’m mad I read it. And as far as spiciness is concerned, it was hot.
