I don’t know what I expected out of this story when I heard what it was about but this just wasn’t my jam. If you’re into taboo relationships this is probably better for you. It was written decent? It kept me engaged the entire time, while I hated what I was reading, I had to know how it ended. I know they are not blood related but the constant use of family terminology was icky to me and the MC being freshly legal but still in school was just weird. She could have been college age, but I understand it’s part of the plot for her to be underage. I don’t know if this was also meant to be a bully type novel but some of the stuff that happened/ was said  to the MC was super messed up.

Absolutely could not finish… incest much? Narrators we’re fine, but I hated the story… just… no.

<spoilers>   4/5 stars

as a woman, i am disappointed in myself that i really enjoyed this book. my feminism is just so far out of the window at this point.
not going to lie, i was rooting for jake through most of it. noah wasn't it for me and he was my least favorite. i did like how 'mysterious' kaleb was so i was excited she finally spent a lot of time with him.
towards the end though, i didn't like the time jumps. i was excited to find out how noah and jake reacted to kaleb speaking again, and their reaction to tiernan and kaleb getting into a relationship. that would've made the book better; in my opinion.
nonetheless, i think it was very good and fun overall. the writing was giving very much wattpad, but that's okay. that's what made it extremely addicting:)

Very interesting and spicy. Not at all how I thought the story would go but I can’t say I’m mad about the ending. I think Tiernan put up with way to much with all of them, but especially Kaleb. I think Noah would have been a better choice but the heart wants what it wants.

This one tends to be one of the more controversial books written by Penelope Douglas, and that’s saying a lot, because I’m not sure they have written any other kind! 😂

After a family tragedy leaves her orphaned just before her 18th birthday, Tiernan has gone to stay with her step-uncle and male step-cousins who happen to live in a secluded cabin that gets snowed in for months every winter. I think you can figure out where this is going…

This one wasn’t my absolute favorite of PD’s book (those 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭’𝘴 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 boys have really stuck with me) but I still found it an enjoyable and engrossing read.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 […] 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵. 𝘞𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥.

I enjoyed seeing these characters grow over the long winter months, as well as the 🌶️ that went along with that growth! 😉

My main issue with this book was what felt to me to be a sudden shift to the endgame love interest. I felt I personally got kind of got lost on Tiernan’s journey to that choice, and it felt a bit out of left field for me. I would have enjoyed having a bit more development on that front, and maybe a bit less development with the other main “relationship”…to make it feel a little more fluid.

Overall I found it a decent and addicting read. I think I’m finding I really enjoy PD’s writing and storytelling, and they certainly always push those boundaries.

What this book is giving:
✅ Taboo Romance
✅ Age Gap
✅ Forced proximity
✅ Step-uncle + cousins
✅ Winter + Secluded cabin setting

Rating:
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5
🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ / 5

Look out for (possible spoilers):
⚠️ Mentions of suicide and attempted suicide
⚠️ Mentions of child abuse/neglect
⚠️ FMC underage at start of book
⚠️ Non-con
⚠️ This is a taboo romance and is NOT for everyone

This book is dark. It's  taboo. It's spicy. It was like watching a car crash, I wanted so badly to look away but I couldn't. I enjoyed the endgame but I do think a lot of the dark/taboo parts of the book could have been cut out. The complex trauma is written really well and overall the plot is okay. If you are a fan of dark (and I mean really dark) romances and can look past the content warnings the romance might be worth it for you. This is not a book for you if you are looking for fluff.
