This is my favorite Penny D novel. So far, nothing else she has written is like this book. Although she was one of my favorites to read in 2024, I do find flaw in her plots (based on opinion) but this one I devoured.

THIS IS DARK AND THE TRIGGERS/TROPES ARE BIG ONES.
But.. as messed up as it was, I LOVED it. Teiren has a LOT of baggage and issues due to the way she was raised and I feel as though this book shows in-depth what "daddy issues" look like. Yes, this book is MESSED UP, but reading it with the understanding of what it is and what it's showing, I think she did a great job. Do I love how "Uncle Jake" takes advantage of her? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But I cannot argue that this wasn't a great book. It's twisted and that is what Dark Romance is supposed to be.

(I've marked this with an "Incest" trigger warning, TECHNICALLY it is not as they are not blood related, but some may feel as though it's all the same.)

I don’t know what I expected out of this story when I heard what it was about but this just wasn’t my jam. If you’re into taboo relationships this is probably better for you. It was written decent? It kept me engaged the entire time, while I hated what I was reading, I had to know how it ended. I know they are not blood related but the constant use of family terminology was icky to me and the MC being freshly legal but still in school was just weird. She could have been college age, but I understand it’s part of the plot for her to be underage. I don’t know if this was also meant to be a bully type novel but some of the stuff that happened/ was said  to the MC was super messed up.
