I did not finish it. I read the book until page 234.

I didn’t like the cousin, the grandma was condescending in the beginning and the lessons about family and forgiveness didn’t sit right with me. Especially when we know that in many black families it can get really toxic and kids are endoctrinated and forced to forgive their abusers.

The main character is mess . Her little scheme was supposed to be funny but all I saw was gaslighting, emotional manipulation and her venting and ranting about black activists.

No one was likeable besides the LI aka the victim. The pace was fast so I didn’t really care not connect with the main character. For a book that relies on a trope that is manipulative, the main characters has to be well written and she wasn’t.
