So, Oli is bonded to 5 different guys. North and Nox who are total snobs. Gryphon & Gabe who are slowly becoming less douchey. Then there is Atlas, the East coast hottie that is just the sweetest. The book had basically no spice. Oli is fighting her bond the whole time, trying to not let it reach out to any of the others because she feels this need to protect them from her and her gift. We don't actually find out about her gift until the end of the book and I don't even think they tell us what she is. One of the resistance calls her a void when they try to put her to sleep, but is that really her gift? Because she also makes a comment at the end that her taking out the 90 something resistance at the end was the least of their worries when it came to her gifts. So what is she?? I give this book a 4/5 stars. The reason I say this is because the book has a lot of potential. There is a great story going on. I just wish the bonds weren't all such jerks to Oli, but I have a feeling that now that they know she isn't and ungifted, they are going to treat her better and not as if she is a burden to them. There was one part where it got a little heated in the book, when Nox decides he wants to try and force the bond my making Oli come when North brings her to stay at the mansion. I would have kneed him in the balls, but Oli was fighting both her bond and her gift, but at least she didn't let Nox be the first one to bond with her officially. Will be starting book two of the series soon. I am curious if these boys are going to shape up or if Oli and possibly her bestie Sage are going to whip them into shape.

This series starter is a fantastic intro to the cast, world, and magic system. I can’t wait to get more details in the next installment.

Broken Bonds is the first installment in The Ties that Bind urban fantasy series. It's on the upper cusp of YA and lower edge of adult fiction with the FMC Oleander being 19 years old. There is so much that happens in this book that I was quite surprised by, more than just the reverse harem romance theme, which really kept me turning the page (or listening in my case).

But by no means would I consider this a good book. It's not particularly written well. There's a lot of repetitive phrasing which does get a bit annoying. Some of the characters are not well written however there are several other books so that's probably why. It's just obviously written very young

But did I enjoy the shit out of it despite it being absolutely not good? Yeah. Am I totally seated for the next one? Oh yeah 100% already got it downloaded. Will be binge reading the entire series! I really need to know what happens. Addicting is the word to describe Broken Bonds. J Bree you've got me!
