When I first read this story as a kid, it was one of my favorites. I loved the interesting setting and the danger of the darkangel, as well as Aeriel's coming-of-age journey.
As an adult, I find more fault with it (shocking, I know). It's fairly simple and fairy-tale-esque. There's lots of "tell don't show" especially when Aeriel is building relationships with the characters around her. For example,we're told that she comes to love the wraiths, but it isn't really shown how or why on the page . The plot and action scenes are mostly vehicles to Aeriel's inner world. That's not a bad thing, but it was a surprise for me rereading for the first time.
