this story presents a refreshingly nuanced and almost-too-realistic depiction of anxiety and mental illness—particularly for a historical fiction piece—and i really connected with adrian in that way. i found myself falling in love with the characters in this installment, particularly seeing the ways in which they’ve grown and triumphed in the ~20 years since book 2. 

the only thing that fell short was that i wanted to see more of louisa!! she should have joined them on the expedition!!

i’m not big on ambiguous endings but this one was done quite well, plus i LOVED the addition of the wedding epilogue. idc if it’s fan service, i wanted to be at that gay backyard picnic wedding so mf bad!!

possibly the best depiction of anxiety ive ever read. some of the lines were thoughts from my own head. the writing was also incredible. and i loved being with monty again <3 i would have loved to see percy and louisa’s reactions when they got back to london, but this was still pretty much perfect.

This might be my favorite of the series. I didnt expect the third book to be such a time skip to Adrian but honestly it provides a lovely view into how the characters I previously fell in love with continued in their lives. Though I wish there was ten more books spanning the time skip. Adrian’s experience with mental illness is explored in detail and how it affects him on their daring adventure. At times the descriptions were very intense and I had to put down the book because it was too close to home, but overall it was a fantastic portrayal of anxiety disorders and OCD. I am so proud of Adrian and I really enjoyed watching him develop in this book.

After the unexpected death of his mother, Adrian finds himself tracking down the source of a spyglass she had obsessed over before she died. The search leads him all over Europe and the African coast with two siblings he never knew he had, as he strugglings with crippling anxiety, intrustive thoughts, and obsessive behaviors, hoping finding answers will help him let his mother go and find peace in his own life. Personally, was my least favorite of the series, mainly because I wanted so much more of the older characters like Percy and Sim, but it is a satisfying conclusion to the series as a whole.

Liked it. 

Another Montague Sibling novel in the books! This one was challenging in a good way: it really helped get me into someone else's head and make their ailments more relatable. I was so happy the way both Monty and Felicity came into the picture. And the dynamic between the three of them...*chef kiss.* Is there no way we can go on an epic adventure with everyone's spouses too?! 

As always, the dialog is my favorite part: quick, witty, and makes you smile. For me in this series, it's all about the characters, the plot can just mosey on as it does.
