I’m not totally sure how to feel tbh. I liked the beginning a lot and thought the romance cute but then… yeah… Clive very much confuses me… I’m curious if at the end his loathing

is in part that he still loves Maurice or it it just because he actually “turned straight” like how does that even happen??

😭😭 Still I found the story interesting and thought the writing good.

Clive is a total jerk.

I'd been searching for a good copy of this for years since seeing the movie. By the time I read it my memory of the plot was hazy so I was surprised Scudder is introduced so late and Clive wasn't as much of a jerk as I remember Hugh Grant's character being.

Being a book of it's time, the prose was often a bit tricky to decipher for me, which was the main drawback. Thankfully I was on holiday so I had the energy and mental capacity needed to work through it.
