This book is beautiful. Brought me to tears more than once reading it aloud with my kids. Can’t wait to get the next one.

Does contain strong themes around adoption. Could be triggering for any kiddos with abandonment trauma.

Read this in anticipation of the upcoming animated film and I’m so glad I did! Brown writes in such a clear cut way that can still strike emotion into your heart, with lovely simple illustrations to boot. An overall beautiful tale about nature, parenting, differences, and community.

This was a delight! I do understand what all the hype was about now. And I can definitely see why this would make an excellent read aloud for elementary schools. There's a little something for everyone in this book; survival, found family, talking animals, commentary about the environment. I'm excited to pick up the next one!

I fell in love with this robot, Roz. I read this book, previewing it for my third grader, and I think the reading level will be fine for him. The writing is endearing and "simple" - meaning rich vocabulary and descriptions but not too wordy or long, descriptive sentences/paragraphs. The chapters are short and get to the point so kids won't lose interest. I love the author's style. The story has a few moments of anxiety, when someone is in a dangerous or emotional situation and I was worried about them. There is not a happy ending, but I see how the author has set everything up for book #2, and knowing that there are 2 more books makes me hopeful for the fate of Roz. My son is very sensitive, and I am worried about him getting upset regarding some situations regarding guns, animal death, the ending...but over-all I'm not as concerned about those things in this book as I'd normally be. The idea of animal life cycles is covered, the guns are laser beam-y futuristic type guns rather than guns with bullets, and there is hope at the end of the book. I am letting him read it and will update with his opinion.
