such a disappointment
so many great descriptive words are used in many reviews about this?
epic? in what way? Where is this so dramatic terror?
its just a story about a family that has a very calm monster way way way back there in the dark. So far back why is it even a part of this book? Whats the point of this all?
I really got duped, I thought it was going to lead to something.

This book is a family saga with tinges of Horror thrown in. It's a quirky combination, but in the end the fine writing and good characterisation of McDowell leads the reader on to the foreshadowed conclusion. An interesting change for me, as I hadn't read anything like this before.

Simply incredible. I happily could read another 1000 pages of the Caskey family. The characters, the family drama, the few bits of horror elements that pop in and out... all of it was done so well.

And so this is going in my top ten books of all time
I cannot tell you how this series has kept me going after the past few months yet made me cry so much. Review to come

Thanks for the recommendation from the lovely Char (and my mother in-law)

Amazing southern gothic family saga with horror elements weaved in. Will be re-reading in the future it was that good. The southern bayou/swamp setting was so well fleshed out by the author I really felt I was there as an observer.
