I had planned to do one review for both books, but there's no way I could fit everything into one post. Part 1 doesn't end on a happily ever after, it's basically the turning point of their relationship. I would recommend carving out time to read both of these back to back.
Jake and Roe meet while taking a film-making course. Roe has an idea for a final project, and wants Jake's technical expertise to help it take off. Over the next few years they become best friends and business partners, creating a YouTube series, podcast, and doing other investigative journalism/documentaries, while also being very involved in each other's personal lives and families.
Part 1 is told entirely from Jake's POV and lays the foundation of Jake and Roe's friendship. Jake is ex-military with conservative parents, but living in LA opens his eyes to more than one issue with his upbringing. Jake and Roe immediately connect and have an amazing chemistry that brings their work to the next level. It's not even one thing you can point out that makes them so great together, they just click. They have the same drive and determination, but also empathy and values. They are platonic best friends for years, even if there are stirrings of other feelings on both sides. It's the slowest of burns. Jake takes a while to figure out and accept his feelings beyond a platonic love, and of course life is never easy and gets in the way
One thing I loved was watching Jake and Nikki go from exes to co-parents to close friends, I feel like they did it so right and that it's such a good contrast for later events. Even with these unexpected bumps in the road, Roe and Jake never falter on their friendship.
Part 1 ends on a mostly bitter and not so sweet note. Jake is finally coming to terms with his feelings but it might be just too late for him and Roe. It was sad, I cried, and immediately started Part 2
Read if you like:

Book one of this duology is in Jake's POV.
Oh these two, these two hurt me. They are both so perfect for each other is freaking insane. That Vagas trip?!?! YO ! I'm so ready to read Part 2 for two reasons. 1 to see things in Roe's POV, and 2.. I NEED THESE TWO TOGETHER! Jake brought me to my knees at that wedding. Do NOT even get me STARTED on baby Cas and Bear

I’m not sure how to explain this book without giving so much away.
This book is told from Jake’s POV. Jake was a Marine vet. He had dreams of becoming a documentarian. He was also going thru life kind of numb. He had always felt that was just the way he was. He definitely had some trauma relating to his parents, specifically his mother but we only got snippets. He was a genuinely good man but something was holding him back
Once he met Roe, his world kind of opened up. Roe brought so much energy and enthusiasm. Their friendship was such a wonderful partnership. They truly complimented and balanced each other.
There was this kind of melancholy undertone to the book that gave me a sense of impending heartbreak. While not spicy, the emotional connection was intense.
I received an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

this is everything the author said it would be. it hurt, beautifully so, especially as someone who loves slow burn friends-to-lovers, as soon as you start, you’ll want the conclusion.

LOVE IT!!! Ever since I read that it was with tinges of "If we could go back" my desire to read it got too high and I was not disappointed. I need the second book now!

Jake and Roe have been best friends for a very long time. This story was from Jake’s point of view. You can feel how much he loves and appreciates Roe. Jake didn’t have the best childhood and the book also explores him trying to deal with and handle the abuse he suffered. I am eager to read the second part of this book. This is a slow burn book and it took me a little longer to really get into the story and plot but it was truly worth the effort.

Jake and Roe
I just finished The Game Series, and im hooked on this authors writing. So, instead of starting a title already in my app, I had to begin another from this author. Needless to say I was excited when I realized this was about one of Greer's cousins. I loved Jake and Roe's friendship. I kept rooting for these two. Now on to read how things go forward for them now.

Heed the title... this book will hurt... glacially slow burn, best friends, past trauma that interferes with so much of Jake's life and our journey with him in this story is probably only the tip of the ice berg, but I couldn't put it down... and then the cliffhanger...
And now, I sit with a huge hole in my brain, waiting to see what more pain can be inflicted on an unsuspecting not so naive any more reader...
If you are a masochist who loves denial, pick up this book immediately... if you're more of a binge to hopefully a HEA kind of reader, you will want to add this to your tbr and tease yourself with the complete unknown until Part 2 drops in June.
