This is an inner dialogue book far more than a plot book. Also I wonder if reading it on paper may be easier to follow the circular schedule and through line? Some points made me think but mostly just tried to follow along with the many characters and their back stories that didn't head anywhere I expected besides friendship.

I normally don’t mind storylines like this one however it seemed forced, with little to no character development (unless it was rushed).

I have to say, I unexpectedly loved this book. I don't usually like stories where the unbelievable happens (covering for Rosa) but in this case I didn't mind. Having worked for a company for 16 years, I know and appreciate the various relationships coworkers form. My only complaint is that I read this as an e-galley, so I can't really tell where everyone ended up - I'll have to print it out.

I enjoyed reading this book, which I personally would characterize as a workplace drama. Billed as funny - it didn’t read as funny to me. Satire - maybe. To be it was just an honest look at...working. In an office. In corporate America.

What I liked about the book was how I came to root for each and every character. They were people we’ve all worked with - and maybe didn’t like or like to work with. But this books takes their stories and weaves them together. And even the ones you don’t like you end up wanting to succeed in the end.

This book was surprisingly great and insightful. It has also been fun to tell people I’m reading “a novel about the HHR department of a mid-sized corporation”

This is a book about an HR department during the great recession. The HR team includes the communications team. I work in communications within an HR department, so I identified with a lot of things throughout the novel, and was drawn toward Lucy, the communications VP. I even liked her footnotes, which a lot of readers seemed to find annoying. The author works in HR and there's a lot of realistic office stuff here, but then at other times it feels more like a TV show where characters are WAY more involved in each other's lives than your typical coworkers. At least this group isn't all sleeping together, but they are still way too involved. I mean, I worked somewhere where I shared hotel rooms with most of my coworkers and still thought these people were too involved. It felt a little like the author wasn't sure if she was writing a literary workplace novel or a script for a TV drama. However, I still enjoyed it. There aren't enough books that focus on the workplace. We spent so much time at work, but don't often read about it. It was nice to sympathize with the characters in spots and at other times feel good that at least that things had never happened to me. The ongoing engagement survey gag was particularly amusing to me.

I chose to stop reading this one after a few hours. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and seemingly no major connecting plot points other than these multitudinous people work together. It feels like a glimpse into the strange lives of co-workers for the sake of exploring different characters without much of a driving narrative.

I liked about 90% of this workplace drama. It got a little ridiculous at points but the underlying idea of how you spend so much time with your co-workers that they are almost family and yet there is so much you don’t know and the relationships are so tied to the office they almost never survive without it.

I think the author lost steam on some threads and abandoned them which I found frustrating and she spent too much time on unnecessary footnotes which I found annoying and gimmicky.

Overall thumbs up.
