I can't seem to stop comparing all of the classics I read to Dracula. Much like Dracula, I feel like this book had to at least partially be intended as a comedy. There are running gags. The character names are hilarious. Several of the action sequences read like slapstick. If you read it like a dark comedy such as Little Shop of Horrors, it's quite enjoyable. If you try to read this straight, I'm not so sure it would be. The characters are quite flat and the dialogue is unnatural. The action sequences, as I said, are more zany than thrilling. The horrific descriptions are melodramatic rather than eerie. If you do intend to read it, I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Kevin Theis. They put a lot of spirit and accents into the story, and the version I listened to had fun music and sound effects that were tastefully done.

Interesting premise but I didn’t find the character development to be much of a… development, it wasn’t a slow descent into madness, it’s was a tripping over the stairwell and pummelling to the ground floor into insanity at the first sign of adversity. To be fair I got what it said I would get. Bro was definitely invisible.

Quite honestly I enjoyed it. There are certain qualms that can be had with older gothic literature for me...anticlimactic Endings, slow pace, and a disconnect to society as they often reflect the fears of the time.

With the invisble man I felt myself questioning how one may go about being invisible. The author has this way of thinking that reminds me of nerds speaking about an outrageous hypothetical with real and valid counterpoints. He spent a lot of time thinking about it.

Is Griffin loveable? God no. Do I love him anyhow? Yes. This may not be my favourite story, nor does it make my top list, however I do say I found it a fascinating and enjoyable read that has inspired me in some writing of my own.

I liked this a lot more than The Island of Doctor Moreau! I thought the character of the Invisible Man was super cool and interesting. Wells' stories are also super quick to read, at least in my opinion.

Summary:  This story is the tale of a mysterious man who, after arriving in the town of Iping covered head to toe in clothing, is revealed to be invisible and whose isolation and fanatic pursuits have led to some unexpected and dark consequences.
