Burning the Midnight Oil is actually my first read from this series but I definitely want to go back and read the first two. This is able to be read as a standalone.
Firstly, Suzy Q is adorable! Boone is hot as the newly single father, though is still living with his wife, Jade, who is Grady's sister. Grady is staying with them for the summer as he is off of college but certain events lead to a lot of tension and unexpected feelings (on Boone's part) that has things way off kilter.
Grady has crushed on his sister's husband since meeting him but knew nothing would ever come from it. Things are ever so slightly different with the knowledge that they are now getting a divorce and there's the little moments where they catch each other's eye for a beat longer than necessary or when Grady catches Boone in a very private moment. Boone is very confused about everything going on, or not, between himself and Grady. Having time apart while he is away on the rodeo circuit is good but then Grady's job as a photographer has him following them on the whole tour!
It's a very slow burn romance with some family drama and simmering chemistry between the two MC's. New bisexual feelings have Boone unsure on what to do and that's without the extreme complication of Grady being his very recent ex-brother-in-law. I enjoyed the story overall and the characters are entertaining. There is the odd part where it dragged a little for me but then you have friends like Shooter who kick in Boone's jealousy and we're back on the drama train.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
