Caffeinated Dates with Ruining Mr. Perfect
First Date: In the previous novel Vanessa Campbell our little perfectionist, drill sergeant and number geek shared a rather smokin’ hot kiss with Cameron. He is the youngest McCauley, who unlike his brother’s isn’t in the family construction business, prefers apple-flavored beers, eats healthy and is neat. Nothing has happened since then, but Cameron is finding opportunities to spend time with her. Vanessa is impossibly attracted to him, but with her roommates dating his brothers it could get messy and Vanessa doesn’t do messy.
Second Date: I love the little tango, denial and friendship developing between them. Talks at the gym, a situation push them into spending time together and ooh-la-la the sparks, the heat, the view. I am melting as I try to both savor and move forward to my HEA. Meanwhile, there is trouble at the McCauley homestead, and it is shaking up the boys. Mike and Delilah butt heads and the brothers dish and tease each other. I adore the small-town vibe, side stories and updates regarding previous couples.
Third Date: Vanessa and Cameron are so hot together, but Vanessa has some hang-ups and trust issues that are making things difficult. Miscommunication, feelings, fears and an unexpected complication throw a bump into the relationship. Of course, family and friends are there to offer advice and help the couple out. Other threads wrap us as our couple grows. The chemistry between Cannon and Vanessa was delightful from their banter to sexy time making this date the most precious as I rooted for them.

This book just gave me the ick. The dialogue was soooo bad, there was this weird “cum” fetish thing that all ended up in a near pro-life argument. I just… nah fam, that was just too much.

I came into this series 'blind' - never having read or even heard of the McCauley brothers before. And I'll admit I did feel kinda lost in the story. The names of all these people and who they were to one another flew over my head most of the time and I had a hard time trying to keep it all straight. Seemed to me the author tried to show all that was happening to the previously-'hitched' couples in this one, with Vanessa and Cam's story as the backdrop.
I rather liked Cam and Vanessa, though I kept waiting for more conflict to pop up into this story. I was waiting for something to happen, but most of the story seemed to take place around the issue of their internal conflicts, and this was, let us say, different to read about. Ms. Harte does make the characterisation work for her, but I kept remaining with something missing from this story, and combined with the fact that I was somewhat lost in the who's who, well, this wasn't a read I thoroughly enjoyed.
Mind, if you are already into the McCauley series, then this will be like choc-chip cookies to you! But my best recommendation is to start this series from Book1 if you want to give it a go, because coming in blind can leave you feeling lost.

Couldn’t connect with the characters and did not love the writing either.

So I sort of started this series out of order which I think is like a reading sin or something but hey, I saw this book on hoopla and I just had to have it. I didn't even think about where it was within whatever series it was in. I saw the cover. I saw how long the audio was. I got it. Pretty simple stuff but now that I did start it out of order I might as well continue reading this series that way - so I will definitely move to book 2 then go to book 1. THEN maybe one day and one year I will actually reread this series in the correct order. MAYBE.
Anyhooo, Ruining Mr. Perfect is about Cameron and Vanessa - or was it? I didn't really get that it was all about them and their relationship. To me it seemed like this book was more about Cameron's overall family and whatever was going on between his parents. Hopefully the next two books might clear this whole family thing up?
Now don't get me wrong, I still loved the book but I will admit that I was a little confused. This is obviously all my fault since I didn't read the first book nor the second book. But trust me, I will redeem myself one day guys!
I really liked Vanessa and Cameron and I liked their relationship. I didn't really like the audio because I thought whoever was reading it was just annoying af. So whenever I get the next two books I'll just stick to actually reading them.

I kept feeling like portions of Cam and Vanessa's stories were getting sidetracked in favor or other characters' stories. When the story focused on one or both of them, it shone, but it sometimes felt like too many other plot lines were getting shoehorned in.

Vanessa and Cam were my least favorite of the series so far. I just couldn't feel their connection as well as the other couples. I also felt like the book spent too much time on Cam's parents.
