this is a classic book that I hadn’t read as a child so I decided to read now. It was a very whimsical story with no clear plot, but instead with a bunch of odd happenings. Overall, I didn’t like the story a much as I thought I would have. It was tricky to get into. that being said, even though I didn’t read it as a child it still felt nostalgic.

Very interesting reading the intro about how Alice in Wonderland evolved and the family involved. The original is good, very "dumbed down" version of the published version, lots of bits tweaked and characters added later on but certainly tell its the basis for what it became.
Nice to see Lewis Carrolls own script and drawings too.

It was wonderful to be able to read a copy of Carroll's original manuscript, and in his own handwriting, with his own illustrations no less. While a wonderful book, and one I'll forever treasure, it has left me rather confused, and I think even as a child it would have left me unsatisfied with the amount of questions asked and unanswered.
I suppose now I've read the original, I no longer have an excuse to keep putting off reading the 'published' version.

The original story written for Alice.
This is a fun, quick read on Alice's original adventures with a bit of history to the masterpiece that has come to be. I enjoyed reading this one to my littles and learning more about Lewis' first writing. He hadn't intended for this to become a novel for the world, but rather a fun story for Alice.
What we've come to know as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is longer, with more characters and adventures, than this piece. But this story was worth every penny spent to see how far it's developed over time.

I also found this book in the Wonderland Bookshop in Retford. I didn't know this one existed either so I had to get it! Hopefully, this will be better than the picture book.
Turns out this was better than the picture book that I read previously.
I found it interesting to see Dodgeson's writing and Tenniel's illustrations together. The story was strange, nonsensical and funny. I'm not sure about Alice herself in this original manuscript. She offends a lot of animals and creatures she meets on her journey through the rabbit hole and isn't really making any friends. On another note, I found it interesting that the Cheshire Cat doesn't make an appearance but a dog!
