Surprise ending...

.... but the rest of the story is a little too predictable. Enjoyable enough but not a book I'll remember for very long.

Read it in one sitting! Such a moving book and I would have never expected the ending, written very well and I resonated with the character slightly. Was a recent read so will probably shelf it for a while but I do recommend this a lot! Found myself hooked.

I suspect that the book may get better as it goes on, but the plot just did not interest me enough to finish the book. I think I just found all of the characters basically unlikeable and cared little for what actually happened to them.

Disclaimer: This review is not based on the book's subject matter. It had no impact on my decision to read/enjoy the book.

"Choose Me" made me realise just how picky a reader I am!

I struggled through this book quite slowly, longing to reach the end. I found it boring, slightly predictable and could not relate with any of the characters.

It was very repetitive. Each character had the same complaints throughout the book. Jack complaining about his marriage. Taryn complaining about men. The literature references. Frankie comparing every situation to her daughters. It was all just so flat. The characters felt one dimensional making them somewhat predictable. (Side note: Taryn is a terrible character. An absolute narcissist. So self centered and self entitled. She was way too annoying and over the top for me. Another reason I found it difficult to finish the book.)

Another aspect of the book that I personally didn't like was the cutting from past to present. I just found it lacked fluidity and made the book almost unbearable.

Although the book is 300+ pages I didn't feel like much happened. It was drawn out and monotonous.

"How different their lives looked today."

A fast paced and engrossing read.

This story took me for a ride! I felt myself sympathizing with Taryn, then judging her choices, finally having to stop and think about the reasons behind the actions. While her actions were egregious, the tying in of women in classic literature with modern day love struggles was beautifully executed.

It was wonderful reading about a strong, and time tested, lead cop; but Frankie seemed too worried about her weight and too untrusting of her grown daughters for the majority of the book. I felt these insecurities took away from her as a character forcing the spot light onto the others. Frankie was my least favorite character and seemed to slow the story down.

The story had my full attention from start to finish. I absolutely love Gerritsen's writing style and the way the story weaved through itself was enjoyable. I found myself genuinely surprised by the outcome, only figuring out the true perpetrator at the same time as Maggie.

Definitely glad I picked this one up!

Love this new book by Gerritsen and Braver! The different perspectives propelled the story and the ‘before’ and ‘after’ timeline kept me guessing until the final reveal. Hoping to read more with the Frankie character!
