This was the first book that I read by this author. I'm not ashamed to admit that the cover and title drew me into buying the book. The main character, Andy, was interesting. However, it was the rest of the cast that had me turning the page. Great mystery, great resolution. I've already bought the next book in the series!

This book had a very interesting plot, which kept me reading. However, the writing style itself leaves something to be desired. The author goes out of his way over and over again to repeat traits explicitly, telling his audience instead of showing them.
He frequently informs the audience that the main character loves dogs throughout the book, which is obvious because he's protecting dogs and runs a dog shelter foundation; there is no reason to literally say, "I love dogs."

It's full of things like that, like when two bad guys are arguing and one of them refuses to pay the other one. "Jerry was now annoyed. 'That's bullshit.'"
Why did he have to inform us he's annoyed? Obviously he would be upset when someone refused to pay him for a hit. If that wasn't enough evidence, he said bullshit as well.

The dumbed down manner of spelling everything out and lack of character development drove me crazy. But I enjoyed the plot enough to finish it anyway.

Tried audio this time, and like last book pretty much a dud. 90 percent human,10 percent dogs

I don't like conspiracy theories involving military bombings etc

Please next book more dog and domestic setting or this series will be dnf

I love Andy Carpenter. I love this series. I appreciate Andy's sense of right and wrong, his love of his dog and his willingness to help his friends.

I like the audio book versions of these as the narrator gets the characters so well. Lots of people die in this one - lots. I have a GSD, so this was a plus. Always entertaining, although sometimes you have to stretch to believe any of the situations!
