Such a well written story, although incredibly painful to read.

2.5 stars. Somehow, the characters and story fell flat for me. The parts I found most interesting were the flashback glimpses into Anke's past.

This book is truly heartbreaking at the end. It was so intense and made you question what you would do if you were Anke.

I have owned this book for years and am so glad so finally got around to it. This WWII historical fiction novel was a really moving read and was a really unique take on a pretty saturated branch of historical fiction. The really enjoyed it despite there being some really heavy topics.
