I learned a lot, but it was at times difficult to follow and understand. I think it is important work and I like the unique style of the book, meant to look like a postcard.

A good introduction to the war in "Novorossiya"/southeastern Ukraine, told in real time as it unfolded. The parties of conflict, the causes, identities, aims of combatants and units weren't always easy to follow in reading as (if I understand correctly) in reality. The dilemma of a failed state posed against the options of the EU or the Russian state, with the uncertainties of a truly independent new state are not resolved here. The horrors and annoyances of war are evident. I think I'll return to this book when I have more knowledge about the events of the past decade and a half
