It’s been such a long time since I read anything by Marr but she doesn’t disappoint in this one. Absolutely stunning and delivers everything you could want from dark fae romance.
Favorite character: Irial (yeah I’m basic OK?)
Wonderful setup for the other books, although I feel you could read this before OR after the main series.
Would recommend reading with caution if polyamory allusions bother you.

Oh the nostalgia I feel for this series. I had forgotten how much I loved Melissa's writing, this was a great addition to the Wicked Lovely series and if you loved the books from the original series than you will enjoy this one. The reveal in this book omg.
4 stars is maybe a little gratuitous, but Cold Iron Heart is good for what it is – a companion novel to the Wicked Lovely series. As a standalone, it isn't nearly as strong: it capitalises on the love the fanbase has for Irial and provides an interesting backstory to Aislinn's lineage, but doesn't live up to the richer mythology and character development seen throughout the main series. In isolation, it is in fact rather ordinary, and shouldn't be read as such.
But, for those who have read and loved the Wicked Lovely series, this will satisfy your cravings for more. This is a piece of fanservice which delights in showing the softer side of Irial, and gives him something of a fairytale love story (even if it is destined to end in tragedy).

Historical novel that tries to sidestep it's historical nature (great way to present location but no words on clothes or finer details of social mores), but that's fine becaus the series isn't a historical fantasy. The guy narrator used a falsetto for women characters' speech that sends me up a wall.

I adore the world of wicked lovely! This prequel is not an exception, but it is also not my favorite of the series. My last foray into the world was a really long time ago, and I remember being pretty confused by some later reveals in the series. Thankfully, this book retroactively cleared a lot of them up! I do plan and hope to reread the whole series in the near future, and im really glad I read this prior instead of in publication order. Irial and Niall were always intriguing to me so seeing firsthand some of their past during their LONG falling out, I really appreciated. I dont remember being the biggest fan of Leslie originally - and she played such a small part in the end of this book that my opinion of her is not changed.
