One of my all time favorite books in the series, this book goes into a lot of heartache and depth, but is amazing all the way through. Love it so much.

I liked this book, but I have never liked when authors come up with random bits of magic that have never been explained in the entire book, and that magic somehow saves everything, even though the character who uses the magic didn't know he or she even had that certain ability. That's my problem with the sword of truth series so far.

If you are picking this book up without reading Wizard's First Rule, I highly encourage you to stop and go back to the first book. You'll be confused about what's happening at the beginning of this book.

Here, Richard and Kahlan have seemed to come out ahead of the events in Wizard's First Rule but Richard can't seem to shake the headaches he's getting more frequently. When the Sisters of the Light appear, Kahlan knows this may be her only way to save him. So she forces him to put on their collar.

With the collar on, now Richard is forced to travel to the Old World with the surviving Sister of the Light. She claims they're helping young wizards learn how to control their gift. Since Richard doesn't think he has the gift, he wonders how they're going to help him.

But that's only the beginning.

Ok, so not my favorite of the Sword of Truth series, but I still love this story. Kahlan and Richard are separated for the majority of the book, and while Richard is learning how to control his gift, Kahlan is out fighting battles. It's a fantastic continuation of the series.

Decent second book, a lot of set up for the rest of the series. This was a bit of a tough one to get through because so much bad happens, but the writing and story is well done. Again, well developed characters, good plot, just a bit tougher to get through than Wizard's First Rule, probably because it's a huge book. I did enjoy it overall once I'd completed it.

I enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure I was going to continue the series since I didn't like the first book, but I'm glad I did. I loved the romance and the different smaller stories.
