Recommended for fans of Jane Austen and Downton Abbey.
A short novella, "Treasuring Theresa" does an effective job of showing how a country lass and her jaded London cousin fall in love. Initially unimpressed with each with the other, they must individually overcome their prejudices. Theresa is an independent-minded young woman who has turned her energy to managing the family property. After a dismal London Season, she shuns social events, and therefor lacks the social graces of her peers. Meanwhile, Damian has wasted his early adult years dressing in fancy clothes, drinking, gambling and having a jolly time. Theresa couldn't despise him more.
There is a wrench, of course, that drives them together rather than apart. Think of Mary and Matthew in Downton Abbey. Theresa's father is dying, Damain will inherit, and Theresa will be penniless and alone. Everything would work out if the two would simply marry. Fortunately, Damian has a heart under all that disdain and glitter. Since the two find each other physically attractive, their personal values prove the only hurdle. The author deftly guides them to their HEA in this short format, convincing us that Theresa and Damian's love relationship is natural. Highly satisfying. Recommended for anyone who likes a sweet romance. This story is PG.
