I wanted to like this, as I was intrigued by the book-collecting angle and personal connection between the police officer and the victim; unfortunately, after the author wrapped up the case against Hampton so neatly the rest of the book felt slapdash. Maybe the spiritual angle was bigger at the time of publication but that subplot felt like so much "woo."

Interesting little time capsule. Very much of its time in terms of storytelling and character development.
