I had no idea this was part of a series until I realized the names were Rizzoli and Isles and it struck me that that's the name of a TV show likely based on the same characters ;)

Regardless, this book definitely stood on its own and at no point did I feel like I had to have read the other books to understand what was going on (though one character, Sansone, did seem a little underdeveloped/pointless). It had a really interesting and unexpected take on a murder mystery, and I loved the cult plot. Kept me interested until the end!

**SPOILERS and QUESTIONS***

I have a question for anyone else who has read this/other Rizzoli & Isle novels.....who is ANTHONY SANSONE and what novel did he appear in. When he appeared his backstory was never summarized. Gerritsen summarized why Maura had "no family" to be contacted when thought dead but nothing about Anthony Sansone.

Overall this was a decent read. I could see how it may be slow for some but I plowed right through it. When I first read the discription I was a little disappointed with Gerritsen for using the 'we think Maura is dead' angle again so soon (it was also used briefly in Body Double which was 2 novels prior) but this was more in depth.

Oh, I was thrown off by the end with the talk of Anthony Sansone and this Evensong School of his. Again, was this in another novel (if anyone knows please comment & tell me) or is this foreshadowing into the next novel because since I knew nothing of AS or the school, it all had a bit of a creepy tone to it. Did I miss read that?
Overall, a decent read, not boring but not exactly thrilling either.

I am a huge fan of Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles cases files. However this one did not completely make me happy. There were a lot of circumstantial events which felt overdone
