Finding Home was angsty but so sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed all three of the characters but something about it felt too quick, which is why I am knocking off a couple of stars

This was a cute fluff of a read that didn’t quite match it’s blurb.

When your blurb starts off with the work “Vengeance” in a book about cowboys and homophobia, I’m thinking shit’s about to go down (in a non-sexual way). Rhys is a cop who went to jail and wants revenge for the man who put him in there. So I was really disappointed that that was’t explored at all beyond the author telling us he felt that way. Rhys gets on a the ranch and is insta-lusting loving Finn and Cal and vice versa. No real shoot-’em-up action happens until your 90% of the book and it’s completely unrelated to Rhys’ vengeance.

I think my biggest problem with “Finding Home” were missed opportunities for character and plot development. Well...I guess there was in some ways characters did grow (eg- Cal overcoming his problems) and the plot was wrapped up somewhat neatly, but it just wasn’t realistic in the time frame that the author wrote the book in. It all takes place within a few weeks after Rhys get on the ranch. Rhys was paroled at the ranch for six months, so the story could’ve easily be stretched out.

I would’ve LOVED to have seen Rhys working on clearing his name and having the other two help so he doesn’t become engulfed in it and their Rhys’ safety net. Would’ve LOVED to have see Finn trying to be his own man and find his own happiness, maybe (threaten to) apply for college or something. Only thing I can say about Cal is that I wish the author hadn’t used the gay-bashing/rape trope. It’s been done millions of times and unnecessarily. Like, Cal grew up with a homophobic father in a homophobic town and that really could’ve been the reason why he was how he was.

I know I have three paragraphs as to what I didn’t like about this book, but I actually like it. An m/m/m where all characters come together “organically” instead of a couple bringing someone in, is my favorite type of this genre within a genre. I felt the sexual tension while reading and the sex scenes were scorching. And I felt the genuine love these men had for each other albeit in such a short time. And the writing was good at depicting the emotions of the characters.

But I can’t help but feel duped when I thought I was getting one thing, and ended up getting something almost but not exactly what I asked for.

fast-paced

Not exactly my cup of tea. It wasn't the polyamorous relationship, the constantly switching perspectives, or the far too tidy "are we still talking about that?" ending.... no, it was the complete and utter lack of relationship building. A few googly eyes, a blowjob and all of a sudden WERE IN LOVE. Eyeroll.

Oh gosh, so bad. Sososososososososososoooooo bad.
Everything about this was terrible.
I cringed the entire time I read this book.
And I mean, come on, towards the end, with the fire... so random and stupid.

This book is a big fat no from me.

Good start to a new series

Enjoyed meeting these newest members of Sloane Kennedy's universe. I'm looking forward to watching this series unfold. The main characters in this book, an ex-con ex-cop Rhys, ranch owner Callan and ranch hand Finn find themselves falling for each other, overcoming obstacles from their past and dealing with the hatred and homophobia , and resulting criminal acts of their small town Dare, Montana.

The characters' struggles are well told and you ache for them at times. However the resolution is a little too pat, comes about too quickly and certainly needed a hell of a lot of further explanation. It's almost like the author looked down, saw what her word count was and went "I'm done." Not what I've come to expect from this author.

Suspend a bit of belief and just run with it

This is a reasonable introduction to this series with three hot men, each with their own personal demons but the setting and the amount of drama thrown their way does need a pinch of salt.
Having said that, the first time the three of them are together is seriously raunchy and while there's a bit of insta love and a rather rapid conclusion with half the town having an about face so quick it's a surprise they didn't break their necks, this isn't a bad read.

Cowboy M|M|M

I liked this story. Them finding their way together was hot. The town had a bunch of assholes. I will definitely be reading the next one with Dane and Jax.

2020 Re Read

Enjoyed it more on the reread
