Captivating mystery that takes place in two different timelines. Loved the Swedish setting.

A story within a story, with moments when I could feel the chill in the air.

The storyline was good but the changing narratives and time frame made it less enjoyable to me. I also felt the author banged on a few storylines pretty hard. Sven smoked a lot Sven coughed a lot. Sven and son struggled. If the story was told from one perspective and and edited some it would have been better.
I was given a copy from Netgalley. Opinions are mine.

I don’t know why I’m drawn to Scandinavian stories. To me, there’s an extra layer of mystery in it. This book is a slow burn, but worth it in my opinion. Only at the end did the hook endings at chapters begin to feel a little repetitive.

I didn’t see the ending coming and yet it somehow didn’t feel shocking. Enjoyable, good read

This book was slow but not boring. The way it's written is almost lyrical. We follow an author who writes about a crime, then we get into the book he's writing (which feels like reading a "true crime" non-fiction) then we get back into the author's investigation and his conclusion about the murder. I didn't get into it until about 30% of the book but then got slowly sucked in and enjoyed the remainder of the book -though the end left me a bit hesitant about my rating. Overall 3.5 stars. Slow burn, enjoyable, but not necessarily a page-turner.

I don't read many Scandinavian crime books because they tend to be a bit on the dark side for me. Picked this one up after reading a couple reviews. Well written, but yeah...dark.
