played league for almost a decade now - if you love league's worldbuilding, you're gonna love this book. but if you have no idea what i'm talking about and you're wondering if this is a good fantasy standalone, i think you'll have better luck elsewhere

I have been trying to read this for a month and have only managed 100 pages.
I don't think it's the books fault, I have no league of legends knowledge so I was trying this off the back of Arcane season 2 and I think this is mostly a case of a solid enough book that just didn't hold my interest because I don't know or care about these characters.
I might come back to it, the writing is overall decent if a little predictable and mostly functional rather than emotive but to be honest I'm probably just going to wait for the Ambessa novels audiobook before deciding if this is an extended world I could care about.
From what I'd read I'd probably give it a 3 or 3.5 but I'm not sure how much worth that has when I only read a quarter of the story

This is a fantastic addition to the typical LOL lore and gives some very neglected characters their time in the spotlight

As long as one ember burns, darkness can always be banished. Stay alive, and keep that ember of hope burning.
I love League lore so much

Good book even for someone who's never played LoL
I did a mix of listening and reading with this book. The audiobook was pretty amazing - great cast and production values. As for the story itself, it was pretty solid. Maybe meandered a bit early on but pretty good payoffs that I appreciated even without the strong connections to the characters.

I was so excited when I found this book, though very nervous too. I am so pleased to say this novel shattered my expectations. The depth it brings to the league of legends champions featured and the way it weaves them all together to tell a pivotal story in Runeterra is incredible. The characters feel filled with such life and their motives and morals become so known to the reader. The way magic and combat are written is exhilarating. I love the choice of Kalista as the main protagonist. It seemed an odd one before reading but I felt so right as I got to know Kalista before the ruination and can stand right with her afterwards. Everything felt thoughtful and the care for the world was immense. The novel can 100% stand by itself if you are not a League of Legends fan as well. A great read.
