I've definitely read this premise before, with Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series, but I still love this one. Good writing, good story.

When is the next book coming out? LOL I want it.

too busy setting up the sequel to do a decent job on this one.

I have never read a Cat Adams book, but we used to have a reviewer on the PT team who LOVED the writing duo. So, when I saw that one half of the duo, C.T. Adams, had written her first solo book, I decided to give it a try. And I was not disappointed! I have no frame of reference for comparison, so I cant tell you if The Exile was anything like the writing style of Cat Adams, though.

From a technicality front, The Exile was very well written. The story line was thought out in great detail and woven together perfectly. The main character is strong while still maintaining femininity. The supporting cast consists of many different characters who all have great personalities. With the exception of a minor hiccup in the beginning (which I will get into in a minute), the pacing is perfect. All around, the writing was tight. I was very impressed!

The only thing I had trouble with was the start of the book felt a little choppy. That being said, I find that with a LOT of series first installments, to the point that I kind of expect it. First installments require a lot of world building for the readers. Once that world building is done, the story is free to just flow. I think in a lot of cases, that takes away from the story a bit, but I dont feel it did in this case. Even with the building of the background, C.T. Adams still managed to move the story forward at the same time. It just has a couple of rough spots at the beginning. Once the story really starts to flow, it takes right off.

Overall, I felt The Exile was an excellent start to a new series! I am really looking forward to reading more of Brianna and seeing where the story takes her.

very fast paced. I didn't expect the ending.

Weeeellll. I put this one down because it just seemed like another fantasy with no diversity. Why bother? If you're making up societies and races, and don't include any PoC, then I'm going to assume you're not writing for me.

So I keep..it...moving.

This book was spectacular. The beginning was a bit slow and I was slow to pick up the multiple points of view. About a quarter of the way through the book it ramped up in a spectacular pace and I loved this book.  The characters were dynamic and interesting. Can't wait for part two!

Excellent read. Looking forward to the next one. Reminded me of the stories of a couple of my favorite authors, Laurell K. Hamilton and Kim Harrison

Interesting take on modern fairy world and its reach into our world. Liked the uber-powerful and sexy protagonist, but, sigh, it got old after a little while. A smart attempt at a fantastical political and murderous series. I won't feel too bad about leaving it here, enjoyable but didn't stick after reading.

This is a debut of sorts from an established author. However, this will mark her solo exploration. And, it’s a decent enough start. There are flaws, but still a good enough story to keep readers involved. The world building was decent and the characters were believable enough. It’s a series to watch as this author grows more on her own. It holds promise.

I’d say that the characters need more individualization. Their voices all blend together to the point that what they say doesn’t seem like something a person like them would actually say. The only other “complaint” is that it is standard faery plot. Not that there will be much deviation from most notable things, but still the story isn’t ground breaking and doesn’t introduce anything really that new.

I completely recommend it for urban fantasy fans, because it’s right up that alley. And, there are many places to go with tons of development opportunities with these new characters you can grow to love.
