There were things I loved and things I did not. I still really like the main characters and the side characters :) story was compelling and well thought through. I thought the author did a very tasteful job with the magic and spells. I didn't feel creepy when there was dark magic, if that makes sense.

I don't think it would be much of a spoiler (in fact it is quite informative) to say that through the majority of the book, Tristan and Cecile are working separately. This gives them both a chance to grow, and maneuver, and untangle the various political strings "as above, so below" and come to a rewarding payoff.

I have a theory when it comes to trilogies. The first book is for setting up the world, introducing the cast of characters, and overcoming a conflict while setting up for a bigger grander story. The second book, like this one, is where authors can truly shine and tell the kind of story they TRULY want to tell. Reading the Hidden Huntress, you can see that Jensen has a talent for mystery, political intrigue, plot twists and character development. Romance? Maybe not so much. Fortunately the other elements were delivered strongly enough to keep me engaged.

Oh my gosh. So many layers! As always, the characters are all fully fleshed, and we are starting to find more and more motivations that are driving the "bad guys". Lots of twists and turns and all of them are well planted so once you know the outcome you can look back and see the hints of what was to come.

Despite the fact that I picked up on the twist early, I still couldn't put the book down. How long was it going to take for the characters to catch on, and what were they going to do about it?! Stakes were high and the ending ... whoa! I need to get my hands on the third one!

I love Danielle’s writing style. The characters are so compelling and interesting. They’re smart and communicate even if they do have problems. Honestly, I really love this series and can’t wait for the next one.
