I came into this expecting a lighter, possibly even funny, tale about a stranger who is hired to be the ultimate fantasy. What I got was a dejecting tale about a man and his mommy issues. I wanted more stories of the stranger (important to note he is never named) being hired but really it was maybe 4 or 5 jobs mentioned total, only 3 of which had any kind of substance behind it. It was a short read so I stuck it out but I think it could've benefited from a few more chapters with more focus on the plot. It was SUPER introspective, which is fine, just not for me at this time.

The characters really come off the page. Very compelling. Perfect ending. Would be a great book club book. Just enough ambiguity to make it interesting.

I’m finding myself going back and forth on whether I liked this book. So I’m going to simply say, it was ok.

Rounded up from 3.5 stars... A thought-provoking read and social commentary about what makes a relationship "real" in this age where we can use a phone App to rent a stranger to fulfill any role we want or need in our lives.

Really well written and a fascinating, witty, surprising read. It ended a bit abruptly for me but great descriptions and interesting characters.
