Very thought provoking, and definitely a more melancholy vibe. It’s sad to me how the Stranger is, to the very end, a stranger to even himself — a blank canvas for other people to make into what they need or want in the moment. His lack of ability to allow himself to truly feel and identify his own emotions and his struggle to form emotional connections. The way his story ends with Lily mirroring the way his story ended with his own mother. The ending is ambiguous, but mostly left me feeling sad. And I love a book that can make me feel so many different emotions.

Moderate: Sexual content

Based on the cover you’d think this would be a lighthearted, rom com type thing with an happy ending. Well if that, this is not. This is much deeper than that. It really makes you think about human connection and closeness, and what constitutes those relationships anyway.
We follow the main character in first person throughout the book and never do we learn his name. I believe that is intentional so that we can know as little about him as he seems to know about himself.
The writing was good and the plot was interesting. I just wish the ending had a bit more depth. Although, this was not a story about all the other characters, this was the main characters story. So I understand why the author did it that way.

There are some genuine strengths to this story, and I was very invested most of the way through. However, the ending was incredibly unsatisfying. I know it might be a realistic ending, and obviously, the main character has a LOT to heal and grow from, and that's going to take time.
It just left me a bit disappointed.
