This is a nonfiction text with difficult themes but an inspiring story. I found it easier to listen to the audio book than read the text.

When I started reading this book, I thought it was historical fiction. I realized that it was more of an biographical essay and I wasn’t really in the mood for that type of book at first. The language tends toward flowery, especially when the author is describing the animals. There were several details included about Jewish people in Poland during WWII that I didn’t know, even though I’ve read broadly about The Holocaust. There were big chunks of the book that really drug for me. It was interesting but not my favorite.
