I’ve read this completely out of order, but I’m hoping because it’s three different authors they’re also standalone stories with character overlap.
I truly did love this story and fell in love with Nixon right along with Zoe. His past was horrific and he had so much to work through, at times I wondered if he could. Of course it’s a HEA, but in true Rebecca Yarros fashion, it was one that had to be earned. I can’t wait to read the other two Hush Notes books so I can have the full story.

This book was a delight. The characters were multi-layered and easy to root for. The angst was done perfectly. I particularly enjoyed the gradual development of the relationship between the FMC and MMC. They didn't jump each other's bones because of lust; they both kept their distance while becoming closer emotionally until the tension got to be overwhelming. It's the best kind of buildup and it's done well here.

Edited to add- go sell your books in Gaza !
This was the first book I read by Rebecca Yarros and I was blown away by how much I loved it!
I've been waiting for Nixon's story from book 1 in the series and it was so good!
I pre ordered all 3 books in the series back in March and I wasn't sure how much I will enjoy Rebecca Yarros' book since I never read any book by her and I'm happy to say that Muses and Melodies was amazing!
Since book #1 in the series I wanted to know more about Nixon and what made him who he is and I felt like Muses and Melodies gave me all the answer and more.
Zoe was a great heroine, I loved how she dealt with Nixon and how she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and the banter between them was so good.I enjoyed reading about Zoe's family and how Nixon dealt with spending time in such a small town. I felt it added another dimension to getting to know Zoe and what made her want to succeed so much in the music industry.
Muses and Melodies deals with Nixon addictions and I thought the author dealt with it in a good way, I really wanted him to stay sober this time and it was good to see his friends and Zoe akk trying to help him.
Hush Note is one of my fav series of 2020!

Type of read: Commuter Read.
What made me pick it up: Yarros sucked me in with the Empyrean series and I was looking for something else to read on my Spotify list. 'Muses & Melodies' was an easy click while I was commuting.
Overall rating: Predictable with a few surprise moments. Clearly, I finished this book in two days so it had to have something that kept me coming back. It was good. I liked the storyline, I liked that it showed the rehab of addiction in a realistic but positive light and didn't include a relapse , I liked the characters - no one was super cringe, and I liked the overall idea of 'Muses & Melodies. Maybe I was expecting something less surface-level and more gritty and involved. Either way, I'm not mad that I read it, but I'm not going to be searching out the other stories in the Hush Note lineup. I do think it's always nice when books like this can stand alone or be incorporated with their counterparts. I didn't feel I was missing out on anything not having read 'Lies & Lullabies' and 'Rifts & Refrains.'
I absolutely do not understand why Yarros chose to include the epilogue that included Nixon and Zoey having a child. For me, that completely goes against everything they were built up to be as characters. I know they never said kids were out of the question, but it seemed like it was playing way too much into the white picket fence, this is what we're supposed to be couple, instead of who they had grown to be and become as a couple.
Reader's Note: 'Muses & Melodies' includes themes of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction; rehabilitation; sex; child abuse; and child death .

Simply beautiful! An ambitious girl and a broken man get together and the result is fantastic! Zoe Shannon is assigned to watch over Nixon Winters, make sure he doesn’t return to his addictive habits. At the end of Jonas’ book (Lies & Lullabies), Nixon had an overdose, pretty serious. It was like a wake up call and he went into rehab. Since it wasn’t his first rodeo in rehab, there were doubts among his friends and the producers if his new sobriety would stick, hence babysitter Zoe.
Zoe is a blast. She dresses very conservatively, not an inch of naughty skin visible. She has ambitions to manage rock bands, but for the moment, she’s assigned to Nixon. She’s not impressed by Nixon’s attitude and she doesn’t take crap. I loved her zingers back to Nixon when he gets testy!
“She was a color-coded, alphabetized checklist with no sense of humor, and I had half a mind to tell her to drink the damned thing herself if it would help dislodge the stick from her incredible @ss.”
Nixon is broken. He has secrets that he just won’t reveal, that haunt him and cause nightmares. The only thing we know is that summers are lethal and he goes on a downward spiral starting May. When Zoe is assigned to him, he has such a great time riling her that he doesn’t notice the passing of time.
When they relocate to her hometown of Legacy, Colorado, so he can rest and write songs, he really buys into the mountain scene, he loves her family, enjoys the small town fall festival, and starts hiking.
“Her heart and her mind were wide open, where mine were locked away for the safety of the general public. Her past was all picket fences, where mine was barbed wire. Her family was a step away from a sitcom, where mine wasn’t even suitable for HBO. She was diligent and goal-oriented, where my work ethic ebbed and flowed with the tide of my moods. She was as constant as the North Star, and I was fickle on my best days. She was my better in every single way.”
I loved Nixon’s character, he has so many layers, the broken side, the addictive side, the gifted side. He’s complex and compelling. When he’s not being an obnoxious rockstar, he’s a sweet man, appreciative of simple pleasures.
As Nixon and Zoe interact, she delivers peace and a sense of home to Nixon. When they get involved, his heart and mind are fired and his muse comes back. Together, they are a source of power, she protects and manages him, and in managing him, he gives her sense and purpose.
The question is, will this be enough? Will Zoe give up her ambitions of being a band manager? Will Nixon ever be able to share his dark secrets and get help?
This was an intense story, interspersed with apparitions from Jonas and Quinn, and touches of humor. I loved the emotions and the characters and the way that an itty bitty girl with an attitude can tame a sexy, entitled rockstar.

I adored this book. Rebecca Yarros knows how to write an amazing story and this was not an exception. I enjoyed the storyline and the chemistry between the protagonists and I loved that it did not feel rush.
